Are you big into health like I am? Are you constantly looking at ingredients or reading the latest article about what is “good” or “not good” for us? Do you find that we are hearing more and more about the rising of illnesses and cancers?
I am a health fanatic. I am constantly looking at those ingredients. I read about what foods and vitamins are good for us. I exercise for my heart, not so I can look “good”. I drink water and teas instead of sodas and juice. Heck, the #1 reason I chose to breastfeed is for how AMAZING and good it is for my baby and myself. I try to do anything that I can to be healthy. I LOVE HEALTH.
But one thing that I did not know that was unhealthy for me were the everyday products that I put on my skin. And not only my skin, but my baby’s skin as well. I’m talking shampoos, soaps, lotions, face foundation, eye make up, deodorant, laundry detergents…and the list goes on and on. Talk about a real slap in the face when I found out that most of these products contain harmful chemicals.
Did you know that the U.S. only bans 30 harmful ingredients while the E.U. bans 1,400 harmful ingredients? Holy cow, I would say the U.S. is a little behind! Congress has not passed a major federal law against chemicals since 1938. That is 80 years ago, people. So this leaves it up to all of the big companies to deem what is “safe”. The harmful chemicals that we put on our bodies can cause infertility, cancer, and hormonal disruption. We need healthy guidelines for companies to follow.
Did you also know that something labeled organic doesn’t necessarily mean the product is organic? There only needs to be one organic ingredient for a company to label it “organic”. Also, the term “fragrance” can mean anything under the sun. This word hides many of the harmful chemicals in a product. Now there are some companies that are true to their word, such as The Honest Company, Seventh Generation, Meyer’s, and Dr. Bonner’s. I try to buy from these companies as much as I can for diapers, laundry detergents, and cleaning products.
I bring you good news for our skincare products though! I came across a newer company, Beautycounter, that offers safer products for you and your family. Their mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. They have created “The Never List” which contains all of the questionable and unsafe chemicals they avoid in their products. Would you like to know how many of these chemicals they ban from their products? 1,500. That is 1,470 more ingredients than the U.S. requires. That is pretty amazing! And better yet, Beautycounter lists every ingredient they use in each product. Each ingredient that is used is tested for safety prior to distribution.
Not only does Beautycounter ban 1,500 harmful chemicals, but the products actually work! They offer shampoos, soaps, face wash, moisturizers, face oils, make up, masks, and baby products. With this company, I am able to replace most of my daily products alone. I have oily, blemish prone skin and these products help clear my face and remove excess oils without drying it! I will warn you though, my face did break out at first. But it was only due to the products bringing out all of the impurities embedded in my skin. Within a week, my skin was glowing. These products last forever as well as you only need a very small amount.
I love that I feel safe while using Beautycounter! I am proud to be a part of this amazing company. Our mission is to educate others while offering cleaner, safer products. We genuinely care about the health of others. One small change can lead you to a healthier life. You are worth it.
